Guru Rinpoche is referred as Second Buddha and has played important role for founding Buddhism in Tibet. He was invited by Tibetan King Trisong Detsen to help establish Buddhism in Tibet. Guru Rinpoche is also famous for hiding numerous termas or ‘treasure texts’ that have secured the Vajrayana teachings for the future centuries and that were and still are revealed when needed.
Etymology
Guru Rinpoche was the ultimate Buddhist mystic in 8th century India. He was a tantric master and famous for performing miracles. He was invited by Tibetan King Trisong Detsen to help establish Buddhism in Tibet. After an intensive meditation retreat in Nepal he entered Tibet subduing negative energies and political obstacles to the establishment of Buddhism in the Land of the Snows. His powerful presence in the country helped built Samye, the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet. Padmasambhava introduced a style of monastic life that included Cham Lama Dances, which united tantric meditation and dance. His hand and footprints can even be found today in many caves throughout the Himalaya that he used for meditation.
